Difference between Boys and Girls during the Renaissance Time

During the Renaissance in Italy, many activities divided what boys and girls were allowed or not allowed to do. For the girls, they should stay at home and cannot go outside freely like boys, whereas they had freedom to go around the city any time of the day. Girls had to wear tight clothes like corsets, high shoes and uncomfortable dresses all the time. On top of that they couldn’t get jobs like boys. Boys could have education that helped to get good jobs, but girls were mostly taught how to take care of house. Only some girls were educated which helped her husband and her family. For wedding, only first daughter or second daughter could marry. Other daughters were usually sent to the convent and became a nun (Because of the dowry problem). Also for the boys, usually the oldest son could marry.
After I learned about the lifestyle between men and women during the Renaissance time, I thought it was not fair to the women. We know in this time period, men and women got different treatment. Men could do whatever they wanted, but women didn’t have a chance to have any freedom. They were not allowed to educate like men, also they couldn’t get inheritance from parents. I wonder how women lived at that time without having a freedom like nowadays. If I was one of the girls in the Renaissance times, I might complain about the society and always want to get free from the uncomfortable etiquettes. (Like Donata in ‘Daughter of Venice’. She hated the lifestyle of Renaissance noble woman)

  1. There are many good ideas in this writing. However, the writing itself doesn't look like the writing you do independently in class, therefore reflecting quite a bit of help.
